Foundation Years

Foundation Year 1:

A Foundation Year 1 post was established in August 2005. Participants join us for a four month period. The F1 doctor is responsible for work on the Wilberforce Ward (arranging and supervising tests, admitting patients and following their progress). In addition clinical work is undertaken in the busy pre-assessment clinic. The Ophthalmology F1 doctor also has some rotational committment to the Acute Medical rota.

Opportunities for learning about ophthalmology are frequent and numerous. The F1 doctor may attend clinics in all the subspecialities in ophthalmology plus allied clinics such as orthoptics, optometry, low vision aids and patient counselling. The F1 doctor may also attend operating theatre sessions as required and is expected to join and to participate in department teaching sessions.

Foundation Year 2:
