We have an established program of training for Junior Medical Staff.
Learning objectives are outlined for each subspecialty
Surgical training. A combination of Wet-Lab training, supervision and review of cases is used to ensure progression in Ophthalmic surgery. SHOs must have completed a College Approved Micro surgical skills course before live surgery can take place.
All microsurgery in the Hospital can be recorded to facilitate case review.
Laser Training. The PixEyes Laser Simulator is available for laser training. A series of lectures on safety, techniques, rationale, results and methods is provided. Simulated sessions can be recorded and reviewed.
Ophthalmoscopy and retinoscopy can be practiced on a range of simulators.
Photography and video of external eye, retinal fundus, eye movements and X-Rays are used for one to one teaching and also for grand rounds and X-Ray conferences
Junior doctors are expected to fully participate in Study Days, tutorials, and Regional teaching sessions. Attendance is expected at all training sessions unless on annual or study leave.
Full support and encouragement is given for audit and submission of papers or posters. Specialist Registrars are expected to write up case reports in a timely manner.
Surgical skills can be honed in our Wet-lab. We have available Royal College cataract practice eyes.
