Oculoplastics, lacrimal and Orbit Mr. Colin Vize
The Oculoplastic clinic takes place weekly. The specialist registrar will be actively involved in the clinical assessment of a variety of new and old patients. Discussion of cases with the consultant is expected and encouraged.
Mandatory Objectives
· To undertake a careful history and examination on clinic patients
· To personally perform lacrimal sac wash-outs in clinic
· To be able to request and interpret ancillary tests e.g. mDCG, scintigraphy, CT and MRI
· To visit the artificial eye centre
· To observe and undertake botulinum injections for the management of blepharospasm
· To learn and develop appropriate surgical skills in the management of standard lid conditions (entropion, ectropion)
· To observe and assist in the surgical management of ptosis
· To undertake and assist in lacrimal surgery
· To be actively involved in the management of thyroid eye disease, including attending an endocrine clinic
· To observe and assist in the clinical and surgical management of orbital pathology
· To produce an appropriate case chapter of the college log book where applicable
The training given in the subspecialty will provide opportunity to reach level 4 competence as set out in the curriculum of higher specialist training.
